rainrainsound is a free online rain and ambient sound mixer. Every sound — rain, thunder, wind, ocean waves, a flowing stream, a crackling fire, birds, crickets, wind chimes and a soft drone — is generated live in your browser, so it never repeats. That means none of the looping you hear on most rain-sound sites and apps: the soundscape keeps evolving for as long as you listen.
Blend your own mix for whatever you need. For sleep, set a timer with a gentle fade, turn on wind-down to slowly thin the sound as you drift off, or follow a slow breathing pace. For focus and study, a steady rain with a distant stream masks distraction without pulling your attention. For calm, match the soundscape to your real local weather, or let the scene shift with the time of day.
There is nothing to sign up for. Add it to your home screen to keep it one tap away. Because the audio is synthesized rather than streamed, it also works fully offline once loaded. You can customize the background with your own image or a YouTube video, save and share mixes with a link, and make it your own. rainrainsound is free forever; if it helps you, you can support it on Gumroad and grab some free journals and ebooks as a thank-you.
Each of these opens the mixer already set for the moment — adjust anything once you are in.
Steady, broadband sound like rain works largely by masking. A constant, gentle wash of sound raises the noise floor so that sudden, attention-grabbing changes — a door, a notification, a voice down the hall — stand out less against it, which can make it easier to fall asleep or stay in a task. Many people find lower, "warmer" sound (often described as pink or brown noise, where energy is weighted toward the low end) more soothing than bright, hissy noise, which is why the tone control here lets you shape the warmth. Because the sound never loops, there is no repeating phrase for your ear to latch onto, which some listeners find less fatiguing over long sessions. None of this is medical advice; if you have ongoing trouble sleeping or focusing, a clinician is the right place to start.
White noise has equal energy across all frequencies and can sound bright or hissy. Pink noise lowers the higher frequencies so it feels softer and more balanced, and brown (or red) noise rolls off even more, sounding deep and rumbling — closer to heavy rain or distant surf. Real rain sits somewhere in this family but constantly varies, which is why it tends to feel more natural than a flat noise color. In rainrainsound you can lean warmer or brighter with the tone control, and layer rain with stream, ocean or drone to land on the texture that suits you — without any of it ever looping.
Most rain apps play back a recorded clip on a loop, which is why careful listeners eventually notice the seam where it repeats. rainrainsound is different: every sound here is generated live in your browser using Web Audio synthesis — filtered noise shaped into rain, scheduled droplets and thunder, oscillators for drones and bells — so the soundscape is never the same twice and never repeats. Nothing is streamed and nothing is downloaded, so it is light on data and works in any modern browser. Once loaded, it also keeps playing offline with no connection at all.
